Recently I had the opportunity to celebrate AIGA Jacksonville‘s 25 Anniversary!! It was great seeing so many familiar faces… I have been on “hiatus” since I had my 2 year old. (I know new moms can relate to this). AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) is now offering membership rates as low as $50/year. AIGA offers members a full profile online, discounts on events and competitions, access to content on aiga.org and so much more. It’s a great time to become a member if you’ve been thinking about it!
The event was hosted by Sweet Pete’s new location in downtown JAX. The new location’s decor is like a contemporary Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There will also be a restaurant Candy Apple Cafe, offering a menu of sandwiches, soups, salads and a children’s menu. The cafe and dessert bar are scheduled to open December 15.
In addition to buying all types of candies, ice cream and apparel, they offer tours, parties (children and adults), field trips, and candy making classes. This is definitely on my radar as a location to have my little ones birthday party!
During the AIGA event, me and my friend ventured downstairs to take a look around! We saw the space for the Candy Apple cafe, the area where they were making candy and the icing on the cake…. we met owner Peter Behringer in person! (As seen on The Profit). He was nice enough to take a picture with us. (pictured below)
Next time you are downtown ( JAX) , stop by Sweet Pete’s and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed!!
A few weeks ago me and my family had the opportunity to participate in a unique experience courtesy of Fun4firstcoastkids and JaxParks…a nature hunt (an outside scavenger hunt)! We meet at Castaway Island Preserve with two other families, as we walked through the paved path we came across several clues. The clues were foot prints in the cement … the kids had to guess what kind of animal made the footprints before we reached each post where it listed the answer. Once the hike was over, each family was instructed to go to the Fun4firstcoastkids website and enter the answer for the last clue. Prizes vary from icecream to cupcakes and much more!
This was a great experience for my toddler! She’s loves exploring and being outside. TIP: It’s much more fun with a group of kids! Remember to bring snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, hats, sunglasses, strollers plus anything else you may need. The hunt lasted about an hour.
The hike we participated in was a preview of the FREE 10 week summer nature hunt Fun4firstcoastkids is hosting. Our hike was taped by JaxParks and used as a promotional video to give families a better idea of how the Nature Hunts work.
The 10 FREE Nature Hunts will take place June 9 – August 11 at various parks throughout Jacksonville. Check out Fun4firstcoastkids for more details.

I usually don’t talk about my experiences or life as a #milspouse, especially during deployment times. It can be very stressful and overwhelming…not talking about it makes it seem “not real”. But once I had my daughter and had conversations with other military spouses and families I realized that sometime you need to talk about it. Sharing your feelings with someone who has been there or is going through a similar situation not only helps you but the other person as well. Even though we put on our “brave face” for our family and friends we (military spouses) need support and encouragement from those close to us and for that matter maybe even strangers.
As I write this post I am honored to have been nominated for the 2014 Heroes At Home Military Spouse Award. I truly appreciate the nomination and hope that I will an inspiration to another military spouse and her family.

Today I am super excited about a new venture with other#mompreneurs ! Stepping out on #faith . Embracing my #passion.
Jacksonville, FL United States, 01/21/2014 – A mentor encourages and inspires individuals of all ages at various stages in their lives. Knowing first hand the positive impact a mentor has on someone’s life, Felicia Wright a mom, social entrepreneur and military spouse launches Mentoring Mamas™. The peer-to-peer mentoring program is designed to support mompreneurs in addressing the unique issues they face in raising a family while running a business.
According to the 2013 State of Women-Owned Businesses report, there are an estimated 8.6 million women-owned businesses in the United States. Florida ranks number 4 out of the top 10 states that have the highest number of women-owned businesses with approximately 572,900 women-owned firms. Among businesses that operate out of the owner’s home, 72% are operated by women (2012 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report). “Having the support of like-minded individuals who have been through similar experiences is vital in helping us reach our goals,” said Mrs. Wright.
We are excited to bring this type of grass roots program to the Jacksonville community. The pilot program will run from January 2014 – April 2014. During this time, participants will gain personal and professional support, build relationships, and obtain valuable information from business experts. There are a limited number of business spots available. Note: Although the program is geared towards moms with children under the age of five, all mompreneurs and children are welcome. (Some restrictions may apply)
